Roof & Gutter Heat Trace Cables

Commercial Grade and Self-Regulating

Thermal Technologies' Heat Trace Cable is perfect for use with heating your roof and/or gutter, with our deicing technology, or with your other outdoor heating needs. The heat cable is designed to serve the most demanding environments including hazardous and non-hazardous areas, as well as areas where corrosives may be of concern.

Heat Trace Cable is designed to maintain temperatures up to 150°F (65°C) and can withstand temperatures up to 185°F (85°C). The heat cable is certified to all applicable CSA (CUS) standards for use throughout North America. It is suitable for metallic and non-metallic roofs, pipes, gutters, tanks and vessels.

Does your home get snowfall in excess of 6 in. per storm?

While heat cables can be a great solution for some situations, homeowners should be careful on spending money on a product that may not be effective for their problem. Sometimes, a more intuitive solution is necessary.
Zig-zag or open heat cables may only be useful when:

  • You live in a relatively mild climate (some Class 2 areas) where total seasonal snow levels never exceed 50" per year
  • Snowfall per storm does not exceed 3" at a time in your area
  • You only want to use the cable to keep your gutters free from ice

For those of you who endure these cold and snowy conditions, alternate solutions for roof deicing and snow dams are available as well. We offer elegant and aesthetically appealing snow & ice removal systems for your home, including the T-Panel and T-Zone systems. These technologies are designed for maximum heat transfer over a large surface area to ensure that your roof is free of ice and snow dams, and are shown to be extremely effective. Furthermore, we understand that many of you out there are big do-it-yourselfers, so we provide extensive documentation and support for installation to make it as simple as possible.

See the difference!

Believe it or not, the roof pictured below is using heat cables. You can clearly see from these two pictures that for smaller amounts of snow, heat cables are indeed very useful and effective. But for larger amounts, the heat cables can be almost completely ineffective.

National Electrical Codes both require ground-fault protection of equipment. Ground-fault protection of components and each heating cable branch circuit reduces the danger of fire caused by continuous electrical arcing resulting from improper installation or damage to the heating cable. Following are some of the ground-fault breakers that satisfy this equipment protection requirement: Square D Type QOB-EPD or QO-EPD and Cutler Hammer (Westinghouse) Type QBGFEP.
